Natural Surrealism Collection

"Natural Surrealism" is the name I use to describe my first primary themes of works. It is based on my deep love of nature and all that the natural world can illuminate around us and within us.

These paintings are often inspired by spending time hiking, swimming, and playing in nature and all the feelings and experiences the natural world evokes within me including: Adventure, discovery, beauty, reverence, grace, humility, fierceness, gentleness, diginity, strength, majesty, tranquility, interdependence, coexistence....and a sense of belonging within a greater system.

It is my hope that you, as the viewer, are moved and inspired by these themes - and - that when experiencing these paintings, you feel a sense of nature’s grace pointing us all towards deeper truths.

Mystical Realism Collection

Mystical Realism Collection

In addition to the "Natural Surrealism Collection", I have a second primary theme of works. This theme can be thought of as exploring the "reality of the unseen" or "Mystical Realism". Here, our internal world-not the outer one-is of primary importance. It begins with the question, "What is missing or lacking in our outer world of appearances and where is it to be found within?"

Mystical Realism assumes, from the outset, that essential insights cannot be gained through the material or literal "things" around us. It assumes, further, that our inner world has a much deeper impact than we realize in shaping our outer one. Most crucially, it assumes that these two primary realms of existence (inner and outer) are not opposed to each other but, in fact, are essential to one another.

Here, spray paint, oils, and acrylics are painstakingly layered to create works characterizing our interior worlds. These pieces are initially executed in subterranean cave-like spaces; starved of natural light, shuttered from the outer world, mirroring the splendid darkness of their origins. With this theme, I give "form" to that which is formless. They, too, suggest deeper truths within ourselves and detail the cycles of love, loss, and rebirth repeating throughout our lives.

It is my hope that these particular works can provide a visual sanctuary for you, as the viewer, to explore worlds
previously unseen both within yourself and in your outer world.
